Did you know that Oxyuris equi is the equine "pinworm"?
These worms are typically 1-5cm long, and found in the intestinal tract of horses. "Pinworms" do not typically cause problems for the horse, they are just annoying.
The severe itching causes horses to rub their tails repeatedly, so that the tail hairs break off. Rubbing, biting and scratching can cause skin infections. The best way to treat and prevent pinworms is to deworm your horses.
