November 3rd is One Health Day! This day brings national attention to approaching complex challenges involving animals, people, and planetary ecosystems.
We are all connected. Our planet, animal and human care are all intertwined and we must work together to solve many of the world's problems such as prevention of disease, public health, and global security. More recent outbreaks of diseases such as Zika, Ebola, and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) underline the huge importance of this work.
According to the One Health Commission website, "nearly 75 percent of all emerging human infectious diseases in the past three decades originated in animals." This shows you what a huge impact veterinary medicine has on this initiative.
